Though the new W222 chassis S-class has just been presented to us, it appears testing is underway for the mid-cycle refresh of that excellent chassis. While quite a bit is covered by camo-style tape to obscure our view, we can see a few differences that’ll prove to be quite significant.

The headlights have seen some revision, with a new LED matrix on the outside edges. There are also some interior refinements, including a different LCD screen cluster for the all-electric dashboard and steering wheel controls for information and the COMAND system.

Graphics on the LCD displays seem to have remained the same, although it appears the screens are now one unit as opposed to being bridged by a few buttons on the current version. Also, the steering wheel controls appear to have a different arrangement than the current version, with what appears to be more of a cursor-style central thumb control, with four buttons that surround the outer edge and bottom. The same pattern appears to be mirrored on both left and right sides of the steering wheel.

Mechanical differences for the mid-cycle face-lift are yet to be announced, but we’ll let you know as soon as we hear something.
