After teasing Mercedes fans everywhere for the past few years with talk about an upcoming Mercedes-AMG hypercar, AMG’s CEO, Tobias Moers, has stated the company will not pursue a hypercar.

Just a few weeks ago Moers said a hypercar was a possibility, but it seems someone at Mercedes-AMG has reigned in the CEO and told him to stop talking about it, and that it’s never going to happen. Speaking with Autoblog, Moers said, “Unfortunately, if we find we should do something like that, there’s no capacity. There’s no engineering capacity to do that in the near future. So there’s no chance for us.”

Moers went on to state, “An exotic model doesn’t belong in the Mercedes lineup,” which is honestly B.S. There’s precedent in Mercedes history for supercars including the race-derived Mercedes CLK GTR, and the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. Perhaps this is just a ploy to get journalists and spy photographers off the scent? Let’s hope.
