Michael Schumacher Mercedes GP Petronas 520x187 Schumi finishes sixth in Japan GP

What a surprise comeback from Michael Schumacher! For one of the rare times, the seven-time world champion has managed to beat his wingman to the finish. He gained major points after his good start from the tenth position on the grid. A good, strong race plus an exhilarating battle with Nico Rosberg and Schumi produces better results since his much-hyped up comeback.

What could have been a double-points finish for Mercedes GP was foiled because of an unfortunate accident forcing Nico to quit and not finish the race during the 48th lap. Nico was in sixth place at that point, a position Schumi happily took over from his retired wingman.

Nico was clearly disappointed after the race, citing clutch problems with regards to his poor start from the grid. Although his tires were enough to keep Schumi on his rear, something else broke and then everything else was history. Schumi on the other hand was happy that his car finally felt good. He is pleased with the crowd’s response to his performance and is now looking forward to his continued luck in South Korea.

Team boss Ross Brawn, meanwhile, was frustrated at Nico’s car failure, although he’s happy that his driver safely walked away from the accident. Technical director Norbert Haug is also glad that Schumi was able to stay behind the top five drivers of the season on the track. Haug also believes that Nico isn’t to be blamed for his car’s failure during the race.
