A few days ago, I lamented about the death of the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 motor found in the last generation of AMG cars. That motor will go down in history as one of the most brutally awesome sounding engines ever created. The men and women that designed that engine should be given the Nobel Prize for Awesomeness.

Yet, the 6.2L is no more, and AMGs are now powered by a 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 that delivers both more horsepower and more torque. However, not everyone is sold on this new configuration, myself included. Perhaps that’s why Mercedes has launched the brand new video below, detailing the company’s newest AMG fire-breathing engine, and why it’s the best engine they’ve ever built.

Honestly, the video is gorgeous, and I’m slowly coming around to the new motor. My only issue remains the sound of the engine. Because of the turbos, the engine sounds muted, it’s not the brutal noise we normally associate with AMG. I just wish someone would come up with a better sounding exhaust.

What do you all think? Is this new motor everything everyone could ever want? Or is it just another turbo V8?
