The AMG GT R Is an Absolute Killer
Meet the AMG GT R. One Letter Off of the GT S, but a Whole Lot More Intense.
When the AMG GT S recently came out, the car was collectively adored by media and customers alike, what with its rumbling V8 and racing-inspired grand touring abilities. The GT S functioned as a nod to the SLS AMG, and yet it also took away many of the impracticality issues people had with that SLS, namely the doors.
Now that the GT S has been on sale long enough, Mercedes, and the folks over at AMG decided that it was time to switch up the alphabet a bit. Enter the AMG GT R. One letter off, and a whole lot more intense.
In the case of the GT R, the shift was focused from touring comfort to track-readiness. For starters, power is up to a sinister 577 horsepower, up 75 from the GT S. Added to that is a new 9-stage traction control system — because apparently the 2-stage is for losers. And you also get stickier Michelin Cup 2 tires. Option the carbon ceramic brakes, and you have yourself an unapologetic AMG monster. Maybe just skip the green color. Or don’t, cause it’ll be blurred at high speeds anyway.
