Head 2 Head: AMG GT-S vs. Jaguar F-TYPE R

Comparing these two has crossed my mind more than a few times, as I’m sure it has for some of you as well. AMG’s GT-S is the more sophisticated, better behaved, and more civilized “younger brother” to the SLS. Consequently, the shouty, loud, and abrasive F-type could likely appeal to people in the same way that the SLS did: absurd noise and power.

So how does the 2016 GT-S, named Motor Trend‘s Best Driver’s Car for 2015, stack up against the improved all-wheel-drive 2016 F-type R? In this “Head 2 Head” video, host Johnny Lieberman drives both cars back to back on the road. Then on the race track, professional driver Randy Pobst pits them both against each other.

The talking points start with styling, impressions, and off-track manners. The AMG is already gaining love from Johnny at this point, although he’s got a hard time admitting which one is a stand-out winner. On track though, numbers tell an interesting story. Despite all-wheel-drive and more power, the Brit is out-shined by the German. Leaving brute force behind, AMG employs more tact in its approach to speed, and at Willow Springs, it’s a good three seconds faster than the F-type.
