Thailand is not known for its car culture, but deep down, the passion may be deeper than it is anywhere else gasoline is turned into forward momentum. In the /DRIVE video below, the owner of this W113 230SL, Sittisan Quan Sundaravej, explains that Thiland has extremely prohibitive laws about importing foreign cars, especially old ones. This leaves the cars that are currently grandfathered in to be well cared for and admired.

Sittisan says it’s not about the money for him. It’s purely for the love of cars. He claims that the use of his cars, and how they are all driven, is partly why he doesn’t consider himself a collector, but rather, an enthusiast. He’s found that restoring the cars brings a satisfaction beyond what he’d gain in monetary value.

Sittisan’s SL “Pagoda” is equipped with an automatic, and is a family heirloom that was passed down for generations. It gave him his first memories of why he wanted to be a car designer, and developed an emotional attachment to the brand of Mercedes. Specifically because this car was a personification of Sittisan’s father.

Take a look at this amazing video and see exactly why there’s a lasting bond between man and Mercedes.
