Does Anyone Else Have Mercedes Taillight Issues?
Sometimes on the MB World forum, we like to bring our members together to solve a problem, or at least get some more data on an ongoing issue.
For instance, a few days ago we once again talked about the ongoing MB-Tex bleeding issues, and how it’s still happening, even after Mercedes stated they had fixed the problem. Through that thread though, a new problem has emerged, which is getting a lot of people talking.
After getting his car back from the repair shop, forum member Pracht started to notice that his taillights weren’t exactly flush. At first he thought it was because the shop screwed something up. That is until he discussed the issue with a friend who works for a Mercedes dealer:
“A good friend of mine works as a salesman at a different location and said that all of his inventory is identical and there are similar gaps on the Es as well. I have been close friends with him since long before he worked for MB. Finally, I examined a couple BMW 3-Series and a GLI that are in the garage attached to my apartment complex and there were similar gaps. At this point I’m leaning towards believing the “it’s the way it is” line as the actual truth and not just dealer-speak. If anyone can prove that theirs is completely flush and / or they had it actually serviced by their dealer I can change my mind and go back to the dealer with evidence but at this point there isn’t any I’ve seen.”
Interestingly, the resounding answer to Pracht’s query seems to be “yes.” At this point, most everyone thinks this issue is just “the way things are done.”
However, with a few slight adjustments, it seems that the taillight can be mounted flush. So I wanted to write this article to bring light to another neglected quality issue that shouldn’t be happening when buying these pricey cars.
So sound off, who else has had this issue? Did you fix it, and if so how?
