Mercedes-Benz hasn’t made a convertible S-Class since the 1961-’71 W111 Cabriolet, so with open arms we welcome news that Mercedes is going to build a W222 S-Class soft top.

According to Thomas Weber, head of product development at Mercedes-Benz, the convertible will go on sale about a year after the S-Class Coupe arrives in dealerships, so if you’re itching to fork over $100,000+ on an über luxury drop-top, expect to be driving away in the open-top S-Class just in time for the summer of 2015. Powering the convertible will be the same V8 and V12 engines found in the S-Class coupe.

If you need some help visualizing how good you will look in a topless S-Class, Remco Meulendijk has crafted neat open and closed-top renderings of how the production model will look. Burn those images into your retinas in the gallery below.
