Daimler to buy MV Agusta?

A few recent reports are cluing everyone in that Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes, is looking to purchase part of Italian Motorcycle Maker MV Agusta. Two years ago, Mercedes was in a bidding war with VW over the ownership of Ducati. At the end, VW came out on top and rolled the leadership of Ducati under Lamborghini development. This loss led Daimler to be the only German brand without a motorcycle division.

New reports state that the family that bought MV Agusta a few years ago, is looking to unload around 30 percent of its ownership, and that Daimler is the main courter.

MV has been in trouble over the past decade. The company has changed hands over five times in that period. With the apparent interest in MV, Daimler has the resources and the technological know-how to bring the famed motorcycle builder back to the land of profitability. One other potential name that has popped up in connection with MV lately is Fiat. The Italian automaker was supposedly looking at the MV marque earlier this year.

Daimler would definitely have its work cut out for itself, especially since the profitability of MV has been loose at best. What do you think? Should Mercedes buy a motorcycle company?
