Deal Of Deals? This S65 AMG Is Cheaper Than a Honda Civic

I’m guilty of taking the bait of buying a cheap AMG. After having spent nearly a decade with a W202, becoming used to OEM labor rates and high mileage (I’m not sure what it was when I sold it, as the LED cluster was bunk, but estimates were at about 160,000), I felt I was ready for one of the more “reasonable” AMG models on offer.

Did I leave the topic? Sorry. Back to this 2006 S65 AMG, which currently has a $13,600 bid at eBay. My impulse purpose was on a C209 AMG, the one with the venerable, bullet proof, and indestructible combination of M113 engine and 722.6 transmission. This S65 is a good deal if you’re already used to high maintenance costs. It’s not a good deal if you’re cross shopping with a brand new Honda Civic. Though the Mercedes would be cheaper, chances are the Civic won’t cost you a grand or so when you go in for service.

An S65 takes a savvy type of customer. A high-mileage S65 takes a bit of a risk. If you’re new to Mercedes, and considering one of these models, MBWorld and our forum users are a wealth of resources. And my personal experience will tell you too: buyer beware.
