Dyno Testing Hennessey’s New HPE600 AMG GT-S

You might associate Hennessey’s performance modifications with engines of a more American variety, but their latest creation, the HPE600, proves they can properly fiddle with anything. Assuming that AMG might have left some performance on the table with the Mercedes 4.0 litre V8 installed in the GT-S, Hennessey developed a new computer program for it, and took it to the dyno for testing.

What is initially surprising is the numbers put out as stock. The engine is rated from Mercedes at 503 horsepower, yet on the dyno it shows 497 horsepower. AMG clearly underrated their own engine, but for reasons we can’t fathom. When it comes to the HPE600’s rating of 545hp and 566tq, the numbers are impressive, but even more so when you look at the middle of the rev-range. A big jump in power and torque is seen between 3,000 and 5,000 rpm, which is right where you’d want power to be for a usable car.

Is there any more room for power in this engine? Quite likely, as a simple computer flash can only do so much. Once components and hardware are changed, higher numbers are to be expected.
