Mercedes-Benz reaches for new markets in Europe with the introduction of their uber opulent and efficient biturbo V6 S-Class Coupe, the S400 4Matic Coupe.

Besides the lower price tag and better mileage, this will definitely be the lightest, the best balanced, and probably the best handling in the S-Class lineup. I couldn’t find a good cutaway shot of the new biturbo V6 in the S-Class Coupe, but I bet it’s nicely tucked behind the front-axles, making it a proper front mid-engine car, most likely with the quickest slalom times of the S-Class Coupe lineup and shortest braking distances. This all equates to an all-around lightweight performer or an easy-to-drive, feather-feeling, big-body Benz coupe.

The seductive S400 Coupe will first be available in Europe next year, but with no plans for the U.S., according to AutoBlog. From my experience, foreign automakers hype us for years, only to import the model when we’re begging for it. There are a range of Mercedes owners that desire the large luxurious S-Class body with good fuel economy, and they will not have that option. At least not initially.

The biturbo 3.0-liter V6 engine in the S400 4Matic Coupe will produce 362 HP and 369 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels. AutoBlog notes that the S400 zero-to-sixty times recorded by Mercedes was a bit off, and is actually a full second slower than the S550 Coupe at 5.6 seconds.

But you’re getting 3 MPG better overall fuel economy, which adds up over time. Another benefit of the V6 engine — besides balance, fuel savings, and braking — is its safety. By having a smaller engine in a larger vehicle body, it’s able to fold in a crash properly, without interference from the block..

Do you think the S400 Matic Coupe will gain a following if brought to the U.S.? With a price tag around $110,000, do you think a V6 S-Class Coupe is a good idea?
