Evo Reviews the New AMG GT S

AMG GT S

When Mercedes began its whole “turbo everything” campaign, many were worried that the AMG models would lose their raucous identity, which was essentially provided by the exhausts coming from the naturally aspirated motors. We felt they’d lose their snarl, their bark, their charisma. Thankfully, we were wrong.

In this episode of EVO, Henry Catchpole gets behind the wheel of Mercedes-AMG’s first standalone model, the AMG GT S. It uses a 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 that makes a wonderfully insane 583 horsepower. And best yet, it sounds absolutely lovely as Henry flogs the car through a racetrack.

The AMG GT S going round the track looks like it’s absolutely flying. That has a lot to do with the weight savings AMG managed to get out of this new car. Plus, the GT S definitely hasn’t lost any of its AMG insanity, as you can see by the way Henry drifts hellishly through some of corners.

Now just wait till the Black Series comes out. That car will surely be mental.
