The AMG M156 engine is easily one of the best sounding motors that has ever been produced, but lots of regulations around sound levels and emissions have forced Mercedes to put a bit of muzzle on it by way of a semi-restrictive exhaust. So what is the owner of a new C63 to do? Exhaust mods, of course!

Now knowing that a mod is a way to fix the sound of your AMG is one thing, but knowing what kind of mod to do is another. Straight pipes, cat deletes, X-pipes and more can make things confusing to even the most experienced buyer. So what is a complete newbie to do? Well a good place to start would be our incredible MB World forums.

Just ask forum member papashango, who was having trouble keeping his exhaust mods straight, so he started a new thread to figure out exactly what he should do.

The resulting thread is chock-full of helpful information from a variety of sources. It includes some pretty solid diagrams of what resides under your new car, and what you should do to change it. Most everyone agrees that a delete of the secondary cats and resonators will go a long way to opening up the sound of your motor. And then your choice of straight, X, or H pipes depends on the level of volume and frequencies you prefer.

If you want some more thorough input form some our forum’s most respected members, just hit the thread and get to reading. You are certainly going to learn something. As a bonus I even have footage below of what a modified C63 sounds like. Enjoy.

And best of all, the words of wisdom will transfer well over to most any AMG model, not just those with the M156.
