HWA Throws Inappropriate Wheels on the 300SL Gullwing, Charges $14 Million

Get a load of this: Mercedes-Benz tuner HWA AG has decided to take three 300SL Gullwings and make “special editions” out of them. First they rip out the Gullwing’s historically significant, 212-horsepower direct-injected SOHC inline-six, and replace it with a 381-horsepower AMG 6.0L V8. That’s a bit sacrilegious, but forgivable.

Then HWA throws on a set of somewhat-modern AMG wheels, but the rims make the 300SL look as awkward as a 60-year-old man sporting a Justin Bieber haircut. The mismatched-wheel treatment is downright sacrilegious, but rolling stock can be replaced, so this is still forgivable.

Here’s where we trek into the unforgivable. HWA wants to charge $14,800,000 a piece for their three “special editions”. You read that right, $14.8 million dollars … not pesos. This is the biggest automotive scam I’ve ever seen, and it is grounds for excommunication.
