Jalopnik Reviews the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S Wagon
These guys seriously hit the nail on the head with this quote.
“Hot rod wagons are a nasty fetish to a very particular group of people, just like fantasy football or horse pornography. Mercedes knows they aren’t going to sell a billion E63 Wagons in America, but they’re making a very particular group go nuts. That includes most automotive journalists and readers of this website.”
There’s something about the thought of a $114,000 hot rod wagon, with a beating heart that pumps out an absurd 577 HP / 590 LB-Ft TQ. There’s something about the thought of a 4,674lb 5-seat family mover that absolutely crushes a 0-60 sprint in 3.6 seconds. Visions of taking your kids to little league with their eyeballs ripping out of their skull because their pops couldn’t restrain himself from giving the family-hauler a little gas.
It’s a beautiful scenario, but as the good people at Jalopnik puts it – the exorbitant price does put you in a bit of a jam if you’re shopping in this segment. And the E63’s biggest weakness? The Cadillac CTS-V – Nearly $40,000 less with similar performance.
