Jeremy Clarkson Loves New E-Class Estate

The Patron Saint of Petrol Praises the E-Class Estate for Being, Among Other Things, a “Car-Shaped Car”

Jeremy Clarkson has a long and deep history of love for Mercedes-Benz, but recent years have turned him away from the brand. But it seems as though those crafty Germans have found a way to make him love again with the latest E-Class Estate.

In his recent review for The Sunday Times, Clarkson waxes poetic about the Mercedes of yore. They were stout machines capable of impossible longevity and reliability, wrapped in subtle skins that catered to the restrained buyer. More modern cars from Benz, according to Clarkson, fell into a pit of poor design and poor taste. Or as he so elegantly puts it: “The chintz-ometer was in the red zone.”

Of course, the E-Class was redesigned again last year. And now Clarkson seems quite fond of it again: “The artistry of the fridge door is back. It’s just a car-shaped car.”

Even with a new 2.0-liter diesel hiding under the hood, Clarkson can’t stop talking about how great he thinks the new car is. He loves the massive trunk, praises the quiet and refined engine, and lauds the plush ride. There is an admittance that it’s not particularly fun to drive, but that’s okay.

The Mercedes wagon has always been the pinnacle of luxury moving vans. If you believe Clarkson’s words, the newest E-Class wagon continues that illustrious reputation. Check out the best review we’ve read so far in 2017, and then let us know what you think.
