JG Francis's Mercedes Motoring Home

For the Benz addict who lives on the classics section of our forum, this story is for you. If you live in SoCal and haven’t heard of JG Francis’s Mercedes Motoring in Glendale, it appears you have a new field trip to take.

JG is a meticulous Mercedes collector/restorer who scours the planet for old Benzes and gives them an indulgent amount of TLC. He puts so much energy into his restorations, his completed cars have auras. Stand within five feet of one from, say 1973, and you’ll suddenly feel as though you’re living in the year President Nixon said, “I’m not a crook.”

You may remember JG from Mercedes-Benz TV’s “A Long Way” series that documented him and his upholstery guru, Sean Johnstun when they flew to Alaska in 2011 to pick up and drive home a 1976 Mercedes-Benz 240D with 46,000 original miles. That car has since been restored, sold, reacquired by JG, and is for sale again. Now 58,000 miles are on the clock.

There are several cars for sale on the Mercedes Motoring website. Have a look if you’re keen on buying an automobile from Mercedes-Benz’s over-over-engineered era. The site also features numerous image galleries of JG’s restorations that have sold in the past … there are enough photos to fill the Guggenheim. If you have a couple of hours to kill, JG’s restoration portfolio is sure to keep you entertained.
