Judge Dismisses Lawsuit Against Mercedes for Diesel-Emissions

Mercedes-Benz can breathe a sigh of relief in the midst of growing concerns about diesel technology.

A U.S. judge has dismissed a proposed class-action lawsuit against parent company, Daimler AG, over claims the carmaker misled people with advertising about its diesel-car emissions systems.

The suit alleged that Mercedes sold vehicles equipped with diesel engines that actually exceeded federal emission standards, contrary to claims made by the carmaker in advertising, therefore deceiving consumers.

More specifically, the suit stated that the diesel systems would improperly shut down important emissions controls mechanisms in cooler weather, which in turn would produce nitrogen oxygen admissions, according to a Market Watch report.

However, the judge ruled that the lawsuit didn’t have “sufficient facts” to back up the plaintiffs’ claims. Still, Daimler has been in the process of reviewing its emissions certification process at the request of the Justice Department, one of several measures taken following Volkswagen’s diesel scandal.
