This certainly gives credence to the idea that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Then again, I imagine to a trained eye that’s used to rummaging through vehicles left in a junkyard, this 1972 Mercedes-Benz 350SL might very well be considered a gem.

That certainly seems to be the angle that Autoblog has taken in showcasing the vehicle. And while some might write it off as something more in line with what a Mercedes fanatic might say, the popularity that the 350SL had during its production years from 1972 to the 1989 model year definitely warrants a closer look.

The 1972 Mercedes-Benz 350SL was powered by an overhead-cam V8 making 230 horsepower. Clearly, the engine in this one needs a lot of work, much like the car’s body. But the interior seems to be in decent condition. In 1972, the R107 350SL sold for $10,540. These days, you can find a used model in decent condition for roughly the same amount.

Of course, you could pick up one like this ’72 model left in a junkyard and have it restored. Although, my gut tells me you’ll be out of a whole lot more than $10K.
