Being some of the most advanced cars on the road, a Mercedes-Benz can be a fun experience in playing “guess the dash light.” MBWorld member tfsiii recently hit the forums to ask why his dash always had a little coffee cup symbol. For those not in the know, that is the symbol for the activation of the drowsiness sensors in the Mercedes that thinks the driver is going to sleep. If this is happening to you, you apparently have a boring commute.

With that in mind, we came up with the top five ways to kill that coffee cup and wake you up.

  1. Blast Spice Girls at obscene volumes – Annoying British pop stars at high volumes will cause your brain to cease functioning, but it will keep you awake.
  2. Train to be a drifter – If you have a RWD Mercedes, use every parking lot or onramp to hone your drift skills by traversing them in big smokey slides. With the permission of the local authorities, of course.
  3. Try going to the drag strip – Be like the guy in this video and go blasting down the drag strip. That is sure to keep your eyes open.
  4. Buy an AMG – One sure way to cure your grogginess is with more horsepower, and any AMG Mercedes is sure to provide that.
  5. Race your significant other home* – What better way to get the blood pumping than a friendly competition. Wait for that important person in your life to get off work and race them home.

*Please don’t actually hold a street race. That is a very stupid idea. We are just trying to be funny.

Of course, we all know that the coffee cup doesn’t actually have anything to do with being drowsy. The Mercedes navigation system will automatically pull up Starbucks coffee locations for you, so this is a conspiracy and the two companies are in cahoots to make you buy more coffee. But if you have any more ways to kill that dashboard coffee cup, be sure to sound of in the comments below, or head over to the thread that started this all and let us know there.
