This S-Class Is Such a Departure, It Needed a New Name!

There are certainly different ways one can come up with a name. For example, when naming a first child, a lot of people tend to pick a name already in the family.

But the name given to this custom Carlsson Mercedes-Benz S-Class, “Diospyros,” was born out of an entirely different approach to the naming process. Then again, you kind of expect something different when a car is painted in a color called “Carlsson Heritage Green,” as detailed in a GT Spirit report.

The color is described as “retro.” But the Diospyros was apparently inspired by tropical deciduous and evergreen trees, shrubs, and small bushes. We’re not making that up. In addition to the exterior color, the custom S-Class also features a piano lacquer grille and external trim treatment.

Inside, the custom appointments include Vintage Cognac Nappa Leather interior, featuring colored piping and crème leather contrasts, along with a West African ebony finish. No shortage on details here, right?

Under the hood, this Carlsson Mercedes S-Class has gotten a 12-percent power boost for a total output of 550 hp with roughly 590 lbs.-ft. of torque. The wheels are custom Carlsson pieces as well, and were made specifically for the Diospyros.

Pricing for the custom Carlsson Mercedes starts at around $224,000 and goes all the way up to $351,000, depending on the engine and additional add-ons. For comparison, a standard 2016 S-Class Cabriolet starts at a little over $131,000.

Of course, the looming question is whether the design of this wild, retro-green Carlsson S-Class Diospyros gets your thumbs up or thumbs down?
