Maybe that future we’ve been envisioning of being able to hop into a self-driving car isn’t as Utopian as some have made it out to be.

That certainly would be the conclusion drawn from the comments made by Dietmar Exler, chief executive of Mercedes-Benz USA. During a recent L.A. Auto Show event, the top Mercedes exec said that one of the biggest issues facing a world of autonomous vehicles is not the technology itself, but rather human drivers on the road, according to the Los Angeles Times.

More specifically, Exler stated there are concerns some drivers might “bully” the robot cars, knowing that autonomous vehicles will be programmed to stop in order to avoid an obstruction, like another vehicle trying to cut into traffic.

Exler did, however, note that programmers could make driverless cars more aggressive, but doubts that regulators would approve the idea. Although, it definitely would make for an interesting reality show in a city like New York.
