Mercedes-Benz is adding a new vehicle to its line-up, and it should come as no surprise that we’re talking about a hybrid.

The German carmaker has made it clear that alternative powertrains will play a major role in the future of the company, as evidenced by the news of a plug-in hybrid C-Class being added to its stable.

The new hybrid will be offered as a one of several variants for the new C-Class, which also includes two 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engines; a 3.0-liter biturbo V6; and two handcrafted 4.0-liter AMG biturbo V8 engines.

As highlighted in a SF Gate report, the new plug-in hybrid, the Mercedes-Benz C350e, features a 2.0-liter DOHC, 16-valve ICE turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with a 60kW Electric Motor / 6.2 kWh Lithium-ion battery. Output is rated at 208 horsepower at 5,500 rpm for the ICE and 80 hp for the electric motor, putting the total horsepower output at 275.

Anyone doubt this is going to be a huge hit in the segment?
