How Will the AMG GT S Fare Against the 911 GT3 RS in a Half-Mile Race?

The guys from TheSUPERCARDRIVER stage the ultimate drag race in the video below. They pull together nine of the world’s most exotic supercars. Then they pit them against each other in a head-to-head, winner advances, drag race competition. The field boasts cars from Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, McLaren, Aston Martin, and Mercedes. Perhaps it’s not that big of a surprise to see the Porsche 918 Spyder is the last car standing. But what does turn heads is the performance of the Mercedes AMG GT S.

With a handcrafted 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 dishing out over 500 HP, and an insane amount of torque, there’s no doubting the power of the GT S. But its front-engine design and rear-wheel drive raise questions about its ability to get off the line. That perceived weakness is quickly squashed during the AMG GT S’s first race, where it matches the Aston Martin Vantage GT12 off the line, and for the first quarter mile, before pulling away and roaring to an easy victory.

The next challenger for the AMG GT S is the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. The race-oriented Porsche, with its oversized spoiler, lining up next to the more-conventional-looking Mercedes-AMG has all the makings of a classic mismatch. The GT3 RS blasts off the line, and takes a small lead. It appears as if looks are everything. But once those new Mercedes-Benz turbochargers kick in, the AMG GT S shows why it is a force to be reckoned with. It blows the doors off the Porsche in the final quarter mile.

Although it loses in the next round to the McLaren 570S, by beating the Vantage and the GT3 RS, the understated Mercedes proves it can take down high-end, exotic supercars in a pedal-to-the-medal drag race.
