Mercedes-AMG Revs up for Formula One Season

Listen to the Formula One Unit Powering the Race Cars for MB’s 2017 Grand Prix Run

There’s a lot to be said about a vehicle, just by listening to it.

Pick a sound. It could be the distinctive sound a vehicle makes when one presses the key fob. Or maybe it’s the sound the door makes when you open and close it.

But nothing, absolutely nothing, reveals more about a vehicle than the sound it makes when you fire up the engine. That certainly would explain why Mercedes-AMG has devoted resources to producing the video below. It showcases the sound of the F1 power unit for the carmaker’s 2017 Formula One race cars.

Now, don’t go rushing to hit that play button thinking you’ll hear some monstrous V10 that’ll rattle the windows. Nope, not exactly. In fact, not much has changed from the Mercedes engines used for the 2016 race season. The cars will be powered by turbocharged 1.6-liter V6 engines, paired with two motor-generators.

But for Mercedes racing fans, the sound is more than enough to get revved up for the upcoming season. And while there might not be much going on when it comes to engine changes, there are a few new things brewing up for the new season. Namely, that Valtteri Bottas will be filling the seat of retired reigning world champion, Nico Rosberg.

Indeed, Bottas adds a great dose of fresh, new blood to the Mercedes Formula 1 race team. Along with teammate Lewis Hamilton, they should put the Silver Arrow cars in great position for a few Grand Prix wins.
