Each of the three big U.S. international auto shows has its own distinctive character, which inform automakers’ new vehicle releases. The New York International Auto Show has been developed over time to be an eco-minded green car festival at the end of the season. Detroit’s International Auto Show is a Motor City rodeo of power and muscle. And Los Angeles’ International Auto Show puts luxury on the center stage. As such, the L.A. Auto Show media days are about to kick off, and to wet the luxury palate, Mercedes-Benz has offered a sneak peek of their 2017 SL-Class before its world release.

Mercedes-Benz continues the L.A. tradition with flair, flying in two flagship models to release at the show. One release is pictured above, the 2017 SL-Class, and the other  is the king of the SUV model line, the GLS-Class (previously GL-Class). New specifications, features, and full design updates will be announced at the show. But just looking at the new front end of the 2017 SL-Class, I can see tons of changes.

It looks as if Mercedes-Benz will add the new design language onto last year’s SL roadster’s proven chassis and engine lineup, but nothing has been confirmed. The styling aligns with the most recently updated vehicles like the S-Class, C-CLass, and AMG GT.

The changes at the front range appear to be new LED head lighting, “diamond” pattern air-intake grille with new-era ginormous Mercedes star emblem, and reshaped hood. It even looks as if the cabin and pillars have been slightly reshaped as well, enhancing the sleek body. The Mercedes coupes’ flowing cabin designs are breathtaking right now, and I hope to see that incorporated into the rear of this SL.

Could we see a new power retractable hardtop convertible design? We have seen automotive industry changing technology from Mercedes-Benz at auto shows in the past. Could this be one of those memorable SL-Class releases? I can’t wait to see the new styling and technology MB brings to the table in L.A.

Let us know what you think about the new front end. Does it conflict with AMG GT buyers? Are you more of a grand touring SL-Class daily driver or an AMG GT track star?
