Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG Causing Ruckus with HMS Exhaust

S63 exhaust

Straight from the streets of Hamburg, Germany, well known car spotter ExoticsofGermany has caught a 2014 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG equipped with a throaty HMS Tuning exhaust system.

Just listen to the snarl of the AMG in the video below; it must be fitted with the whole exhaust system, including downpipes, sport cats, and valved exhaust mufflers. Alas, we don’t really know, as ExoticsofGermany doesn’t say if the owner has the full system from the block or just mufflers.

The S63 AMG is notorious for its smooth engine notes, but HMS Tuning amplifies that sweet crackling live broadcast. The twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 singing through the HMS piping will get more power, but that isn’t this builder’s bullseye. Sound is at this company’s heart. They want to deliver a loud, explosive harmony.

HMS Tuning hand builds their systems in Germany with the finest quality of metalwork and electronics tuning. All of their exhaust systems are designed with an exhaust valve system referred to as the flap control system. The flap control is at the core of perfecting a precise punctual pitch or silencing. This electronic flap control will work with the presets from the OEM. HMS Tuning has the skill to install a tunable switch. Owners are then able to dial-in exactly how loud or soft they would like the exhaust notes to be. I bet this AMG has a custom switch, as it sounds like it’s at half blast. I bet that handbuilt AMG V8 could scream even louder!

I am a big fan of any kind of in-cabin adjustability, from aerodynamics, to exhaust notes, to headlight height levels, to controlling the turbo boost. In the late 1980s, Mitsubishi released an ultimate sports car: the 3000GT VR-4 which had a switch in-cabin to adjust the exhaust notes too.

What do you think of the video below? Do you think the sound is fitting for a Mercedes-Benz? Do you enjoy a loud exhaust note or a sleeper system?
