If you had any doubts about the seriousness of Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to hybrids, then this should clear it up.

At a recent shareholders’ meeting, the company confirmed that it plans to have 10 new models equipped with the alternative powertrain by next year, as highlighted in a Malay Mail Online report.

“The more cars and commercial vehicles are on the road, the more efficiently each one of them must be operated,” said Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Daimler’s chairman and the head of Mercedes-Benz. “In 2017, we will have 10 plug-in [hybrid] models on the market.”

The company’s hybrid strategy also includes the development and launch of a battery-powered car with a 500 km range before the end of the decade.

The report doesn’t offer any specific details on forthcoming hybrid models in the Mercedes line-up, but it certainly confirms the company’s commitment to the growing trend of urban mobility.
