Mercedes Caught Snow Testing New C-Class and S-Class Cabrios

Spring is in the air, and Mercedes is hoping that your spring cleaning includes clearing all the cash out of your wallet for a new drop-top. Our wonderful spy photographers have been out scouring the streets and have stumbled upon not one, but two new Mercedes cabriolets that should be rolling into official existence soon.

The first of these is the new convertible version of the C-Class. It is based on the new C-Class, but it likely won’t see the light of day until after the C-Class Coupe makes its debut. This is mostly evidenced by an obtrusive amount of camo-cladding covering this car.

Just like its soon to be revealed Coupe sibling, this new C-Class convertible will feature a front end that looks very similar to the current C-Class sedan, but with just a touch more aggression to match the two-door shape. The greenhouse does look a little haunched, thanks to the need to tumble and fold into the trunk, but overall it looks like it will be a sharp visual design.

I do hope they remember to put lenses on the taillamps though. That Terminator-eye thing they have going on right now is not very attractive.

Aside from the folding roof, very little should change between this car and its siblings, meaning we’ll see the same engines, transmission, and technology options. Since the demise of the CLK, Mercedes hasn’t really had a model to compete in this segment, so it’s nice the see the new C-Class open its roof.

The second model we caught running around in the snow is the much more exciting and expensive S-Class Cabrio. Expected to appeal to former Maybach customers, the S-Class convertible should feature all the stables of the S-Class including V12 engine options and the best luxury features Mercedes offers, like the Airscarf neck warming system. The car will only have two-doors, and as you can see in these shots. It is also going to have a traditional cloth roof, just like the Ocean Drive concept that was released way back in 2007.

Considering the near absence of covering on this car, it should debut much sooner than the C-Class and hit showrooms sooner as well. If the S-Class is more your style/budget, you may be in luck later this year.

As always, keep your eyes glued here to keep up with all the news, spy shots, and new rumors as we get them. With a total of 20 new models planned by 2020, there is bound to be lots more exciting news where this came from.
