Everyone Brace Yourselves, Mercedes AMG Drift Mode Is Coming!

Everyone brace yourselves! Mercedes-AMG models will come equipped with a drift mode setting, starting with the all-new Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG coming in 2017.

The Ford Focus RS’s ‘Drift mode’ made thousands of headlines around the world as it was the first time a manufacturer “condoned” drifting in a production car. Of course it made even more headlines as videos and photos emerged of RS owners slamming into walls and sidewalks while pretending to be Ken Block. Is that what Mercedes wants?

What I find rather hilarious is that according to Mercedes, the upcoming E63 AMG sedan and wagon will be all-wheel drive in order to enhance handling and correct the traditional mega-powerful rear-wheel drive handling characteristics. But then they will give it a drift mode to make it handle like a mega-powerful rear-wheel drive burnout and drifting machine. Does that make any sense?

The upside? Besides being able to shred lap times like Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, you’ll be able to burn rubber sideways like Chris Harris on a Top Gear episode. Oh, and you’ll find lots of cheap, crashed, pre-owned AMGs at your local car lots!

We can’t wait to see videos of people giving AMG drift mode a shot. How ’bout you?
