The G-Wagen has always been the most capable Mercedes-Benz when it comes to off-road adventures. In this video, we see the G350 BlueTec diesel tackle the Austrian Schoeckl mountain pass. A true test for any 4×4, the G-Wagen handles the trails with ease. Mercedes’s off-road legend has been around since 1975, and I suppose you could say it hasn’t changed all that much since then. Unless of course you get inside of it.

With luxury appointments throughout, the G-Class is an overachiever in every regard. Granted, the car has evolved to meet the demands of those whose route is limited to the urban sprawl. However, it still keeps all the essential go-anywhere parts. Three separate locking differentials mean even the most steeply-raked inclines are dispatched with ease. And on the way down, you’ll be able to ascend with confident control, all the way up to 70 kilometers per hour.

BlueTec diesel usage and sales is beginning to increase in the U.S. market, however for us, the most common G-Class is the G500. If gas prices change from where they are, do you think we’ll see more G350s on (or off) the road?
