Mercedes’ Mystery Coupe Officially Named 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT
Unlike the SLS, the GT will be priced in the $100,000 to $150,000 range. We should expect it to perform similarly to a 911, even though the two cars couldn’t be any more different. The Mercedes will likely have a turbocharged V8 similar to the ones AMG currently uses in the C63 AMG coupe. If that’s the case, expect the GT to make somehwere between 450 to 500 horsepower. Whether that power will be directed through an rear-wheel-drive setup or an all-wheel-drive one has yet to be mentioned, but, if the SLS is any indication, the GT will keep its traditional drivetrain.
So, do you want it? It’s been a while since Mercees hunkered down to build an honest-to-god sports car. I suppose the SLS counts, but it was never intended to sell in any kind of volume. The GT is. I think they’ll succeed too. The SLS is a phenomenal platform to start with from both an appearance and handling point of view. Shortening it should only make it look and handle better.
