The best part? You have until fall of this year to find out which local mafia boss will lend you more cash for your (possible) suffering. I mean, let’s not make irrational decisions here.
Mercedes-Benz has pulled the wraps off the new, stunning, and downright sexy E63 S AMG wagon. Visually it’s everything we could desire in a hot rod wagon, and performance wise it’s everything you’d expect from a supercar. If supercars could fit five passengers and had a huge trunk, of course.
Touted as “the brand’s hallmark Driving Performance with high utility value” this AMG wagon truly offers the best Mercedes currently has to offer. The newest, smartest, and most-capable E-Class is a proper machine that’s wowed major automotive publications throughout the world. And now, this meaner and bigger sibling is bound to please all wagon lovers in the land. (Or at least the ones that can afford it.)
Engine and Transmission
Under the chiseled hood lays a handcrafted AMG 4.0L V8 biturbo engine, capable of producing a mind-numbing 603 hp at 5,750 rpm. Now, that’s impressive, but even more so is the 0-60 mph time Mercedes claims this glorified European minivan can achieve. How about a stupefying 3.4 seconds? Yes, you can have your damned cake, and eat it too!
In order to achieve such mind-boggling acceleration the E63 S AMG wagon utilizes the brand’s latest AMG Speedshift 9-speed automatic transmission. As with most recent AMG rockets, it’s a multi-clutch unit outfitted with a wet clutch. Of course, the 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system also plays a primary role in delivering such neck-breaking propulsion.
Driving Dynamics
In order for the AMG wagon to control itself through the corners, Mercedes has had to work overtime to fine tune the AMG Dynamic Select drive programs. In addition, they’ve engineered a new three-chamber air suspension system.
Comfort, Sport, Sport +, Race, and Individual driving modes allow the driver to fine tune the vehicle’s behavior accordingly. For mundane errands around town, choose Comfort. For carving out back roads on the way to get the kids, Race mode should do the trick. In either case, the air suspension will enhance comfort and handling on-demand.
Technology
Last but not least, the new E63 S AMG Wagon will be equipped with all the connectivity and intelligent drive functions of the current E-Class. This includes Drive Pilot, and other semi-automated driving technologies.
Mercedes-Benz did not release pricing. Our guess? Somewhere north of $110,000 U.S. dollars.
