New Mercedes 4MATIC Commercial: A Love Story

We all love cars. Sometimes it’s easy to forget that a car’s primary purpose is transportation. Even when it’s fulfilling its most mundane task, a car can create memorable experiences. That’s what makes them so magical.

Just in time for winter, Mercedes-Benz unveiled a new commercial to show off its advanced 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system. Rather than boring us with facts, figures, CAD drawings, or fanciful scenes of high-performance driving, Mercedes went with a different approach. They told us a story.

As you can see below, the ad starts out with soft piano music and a man looking out a window at a nasty snowstorm with his eager, young son looking on. “Dad, I’m ready,” he says. His father, incredulous at the thought of venturing out into this weather, only relents when his wife suggests he should.

Dashing through the snow, the boy insists that “she’ll be there.” This mystery person becomes obvious when the Benz pulls up to an empty movie theater parking lot. Ah, young love.

We know the 4MATIC-equipped C300 made it, but what about his date? The payoff  and the surprise ending do a great job of reminding us why we love Mercedes-Benz, and also remind us that at the end of the day, the reason we love our cars is that they are there for us, ready whenever we need them, at a moment’s notice.
