Get in Your ’90s Feels With the W202 AMG

The W202 C-Class, which ran from 1993 through 2000, isn’t a mainstay on most “Best of the ’90s” lists, but it is an important style-shifting point in Mercedes-Benz history. The total box look from the ’80s started to smooth away and soften into more curvaceous outlines, as the car scene prepared for the new millennium.

The ’90s also birthed a nightmare for Mercedes-Benz: the BMW E30 M3. Now one of the most sought-after German cars ever built, the M3 was everything you could want in a performance sedan. So, Mercedes-Benz paired up with their right-hand tuning firm AMG to combat the M3 and its inline-6. The result was the C36 and the subsequent C43.

The W202 has a pretty poor reputation for electrical issues and reliability (Jalopnik even named it one of the worst German cars ever made), but they certainly still satisfy a certain aesthetic desire. Here are some of the best photos recently posted in the ever-growing, 92-page W202 photo thread.
