I’ve been a fan of buying used luxury cars for a while now. Just the idea that you’re getting a hundred-thousand-dollar car for the price of a new Ford Focus makes me giggle inside. Like I’m somehow cheating the system and nobody has caught onto the scam yet.

Alas, after you’ve purchased your used hundred-thousand-dollar car, the inevitable happens. Everything breaks and you spend a small fortune to fix that car. It roughly comes out to be around the same price you would have paid for a brand new car with a warranty, and you want to kick yourself in the face.

However, if you look hard enough, pay attention to the right details, and get the car checked out by a trustworthy mechanic that won’t screw you over, then there is the potential to have a great car, and this 1998 example of a Mercedes 500SL seems to be one of those.

According to the seller, the car has never been modified, and is like new with only 32,000 miles on the odometer. The car came with a host of options, and all the electronics, the principle things that go bad on these cars, seem to be in good working order.

Right now it’s up for sale on Bring a Trailer, but thankfully, it appears that this specific car wouldn’t need anything but a bit of fuel to get home. The bid is already up to $12,250 with no reserve. Maybe it’s time to get into what could one day become a future classic? Don’t wait though, the auction ends tomorrow.
