Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing on the Bonneville Salt Flats Home 2

If you ever lay your eyes on a Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing in person, chances are it is a show car you’re admiring at Pebble Beach or a museum. Cars like the 300SL are meant for preservation … they are the automotive version of Joan Rivers’ face.

The Gullwing you will see in the video throws preservation out the window … think of this car as the automotive Keith Richards. This Mercedes-Benz races on the Bonneville Salt Flats, and has been doing so every year since 2001.

The car’s owner has one of the best philosophies we’ve ever heard from an owner of a collector car:

“Enjoy your toys. Don’t worry about breaking them. Don’t worry about scratching them. Just have fun with them.”

Fun Fact: The Mercedes-Benz 300SL was the first car ever to use direct fuel injection.
