Speedriven SL600 Runs Insanely Fast Quarter Mile

AMG’s are some of the most beastly cars you can buy directly from a manufacturer. Mercedes’s in-house tuning arm does such a fantastic job at creating mind-boggling machines, that there’s usually little an aftermarket company can do to make the car better. And that especially goes for the entire lineup of twin-turbo V12 cars that Mercedes manufactures. However, that hasn’t stopped a few companies from attempting to create something truly homicidal, which is where Speedriven’s SL600 comes into play.

Speedriven is one of Chicago’s premier tuning houses. Being primarily centered in the flat, boring, and rather straight Midwest, the company has a tendency to go for crazy drag times. Last week, using what appears to be a combination of Speedriven’s Stage 3 and Stage 3R packages, the SL600 you see before you was the first ever Mercedes SL to break into the sub-10-second ¼ mile. Running with 798 horsepower and 909lb-ft of torque, the SL600 owned by one of Speedriven’s clients ran a 9.975 second quarter mile pass.

9.9-pass

What’s even more impressive is that the SL600 in question didn’t undergo any weight reduction, meaning the entire interior of the car is stock. It has, however, been widened to allow for a more sizeable tire to be placed at the rear of the car. Without it, the SL600 would be nothing more than your very own personal smoke machine.

Speedriven states that with further tuning, and a some weight reduction, the car could go quite a bit faster. Based on the company’s track record, we don’t doubt this claim at all.
