With the advent of the new year, insurance companies have correspondingly adjusted their tables and a new list of the most and least expensive cars to insure have now been made public. Insure.com conducted a survey of 6 insurance carriers and came up with the list.

Insurance premiums are based on:
* Sticker price: The more a car costs, the more it costs to replace if it’s totaled or stolen.
* Repair costs: The latest vehicles are more expensive to repair because of technology.
* Theft and fraud patterns: Cars that get stolen a lot are generally more expensive to insure.
* Model year, weight and vehicle type: Vehicles with more horsepower tend to have higher premiums.
* Driver demographics: Where you live, your age, gender, driving record and even your credit history affect premiums.
* Technological progress: Vehicles have so much new technology, which
means that when you have an accident the cost of repairs increases.

The survey results were based on state of vehicle trim and the
vehicles in the most expensive list are dominated by German machines.
Unsurprisingly, five Mercedes-Benz cars are in the list of the top ten
most expensive cars to insure for 2011. In the top 5, in fact are three
Mercedes-
Benz models. Here follows the list of most expensive Mercedes-Benzes to insure:

1. Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG ($3,543.81)
4. Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG ($3,263.46)
5. Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG ($3,220.86)
7. Mercedes-Benz CL600 ($3,114.28)
10. Mercedes-Benz G55 AMG ($3,086.49)

The figures after the Mercedes models are the expected annual
insurance premiums. Obviously, status and prestige come with a price,
even in insurance.
