Why Did I Get Kicked Out of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Extreme?

Sprinter Extreme

Two weeks ago we brought you the unveiling of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Extreme at the Chicago Auto Show, but at the time, the massive green truck’s perimeter was cordoned off to keep people at bay.

But while visiting the Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana last week, I stumbled upon the Jurassic Park-esque Sprinter as it and other Mercedes-Benz vehicles were being staged. I happened to be there for a different manufacturer’s special assignment, but I couldn’t resist hovering around the Sprinter Extreme and taking a few more photos of it. After all, it is a pretty freaking cool truck.

While snapping some shots of it, I came around the side, and out of instinct I pulled on the door handle, and—click, it swung open. I hopped into the cabin with the help of the metal side step (wrapped in muddy graphics), and I was welcomed by a rather normal looking interior.

Suddenly, one of the guys staging other trucks came running from across the booth and told me to get out of the Sprinter. He didn’t ask any questions, or even if I was a member of the media, but he quickly slammed the door shut, got the keys from a female co-worker that seemed to be equally annoyed by my actions, locked up the truck, and walked away.

What Mercedes is hiding inside their Sprinter, who knows? But I did discover a green “bead lock” rim sitting on the floor of the cabin, which indicates the “off-road beaded wheels” are fake. Then again, the Sprinter Extreme is a concept, so it’s not all that shocking.

Just the same, enjoy the photos!
