Would You Drive This Mysterious CLK Bubble Car Concept?

In a recent chat among the writers here at MB World, this strange C208 CLK bubble car concept came up as a conversation topic. The rest of my colleagues know I’m madly in love with my C209 — and most things CLK for that matter — so they assumed I knew something about the clear-roofed wonder. They were wrong. I was left absolutely stumped on this one. And quite frankly, I still am. If you’re an avid web surfer, you’ll find the folks over at Jalopnik were left to search in vain as well.

After analyzing the picture carefully, I have to conclude that it’s not a Photoshopped image. That roll-hoop behind the driver is the biggest giveaway, although the strange proportions of the roof seem to defy all aerodynamic logic. It would be safe to assume this experimental car came out at the same time of the Vario Research Car. It gives the impression that someone told the engineers at Mercedes to go wild with ideas. And apparently, they did. Thankfully the experiment of a bubble top was short lived. I can’t imagine anyone in warmer climates dealing with the heat more than one day. Can you?
