MB Disco Party: The Mercedes 300SEL 6.3
The Mercedes 300SEL 6.3 was “earth’s fastest production saloon” when it was introduced in 1968. And we’re talking about the three box body style, not a biker bar. The 300SEL was available as a special order car until 1972. So if you wanted a groovy rocket ship, this was the one for you, man.
Company engineer Erich Waxenberger got the brilliant idea to take the uber-powerful 6.3 litre V8 M100 engine from the luxuriously large Mercedes-Benz 600 limousine, and squeeze it into the regular Mercedes-Benz W109 S-Class model. The end result was a saloon that could seat five comfortably, while keeping up with anything on the Autobahn.
