E430 Sport Exhaust tips

Looking for exhaust tips for my 1998 E430 Sport. Any recommendations on what, cost and where to get them?

In order to install tips, am I likely to need a rear skirt replacement?

Thanks,

Chas

chas, sorry to be the bearer of bad news... no 'tips' available for your E430. You have to change the rear muffler to add decent looking tips. Performance Muffler offered by:

AMG
Brabus
Carlsson
Eisenmann
Lorinser
Renntech

The rear valance does not have to cut or changed for the 98 E430 Sport.

RBrenton88, that chrome sleeve is only for the CLK and SLK which have a large oval tail pipe. The E-Class has two downward pointing 'skinny' tailpipes.

Ahhh! Thanks for the clarification.

I knew it was too good to be true. All we can do is replace the entire exhaust I guess.
Which begs the question...if you buy an aftermarket exhaust, who puts it in? A local mechanic? Would the dealer agree to do it?

Cool

Chas,

I got a Remus exhaust upgrade for my '99 e430 sport like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=1846815952

Hope to have it installed within 2 weeks.
Remus promises a lower resonance without additional decibels - hmmm, hmmmm, hmmmmm, hmmmmmmm

The exhaust can be installed by a dealer or a muffler shop. Not really a do-it-yourself install because the OEM muffler has to be cut off. The W210 muffler and resonator are one piece. You will not be able to use the old muffler again - I left my AMG muffler on my 98 E430 when I traded it. Call around and get muffler install rates.

Wink Remus E430 exhaust

Charles,

Coincidentally, I just had the Remus installed yesterday for $85 - told my wife that the OE muffler had a little leak and had to be replaced! It's looks pretty awesome, their some pretty good sized chrome tips - the tone is bassier with a conservativ volume increase, the hp increase is also nominal maybe +3.
Anybody need my OE muffler?

Smile AMG rear muffler

Thanks Sportliche!

A little humor for your day:

Sent an email to AMG via their web page asking about availability of an AMG rear muffler for the E430. They replied via email that they ".......do not recommend installation on your Mercedes of any parts other than original equipment....". End of email.

Chas,

Doesn't sound like AMG is too motivated. I heard from some dealers that they do have an upgrade for the E430. Nevertheless, I would not pay the extra $250 vs. my Remus. You can't use any better materials today than I got!

E430 Rear mufflerr

Remus tips look GREAT. You were reading my mind re the pic. Anyone know if extended warranty people tend to give a hard time about non-original muffler?

chas,

don't anticipate a warranty issue, there isn't too much that could go wrong with a good muffler install. oh yeah, i dis'd AMG mufflers but still have the letters on the trunk. it's not so much for product identification as it is a symbol of the lifestyle

(i work in marketing, you know, www.logofx.com)
(used to sell some amg promo items to AMG Westmont, IL, before they were bought by MB).

You could probably pick it up in Brooklyn
