190E, Screeching sound from behind dashboard.
Hello,
I own a 1989 Mercedes 190E 2.6L and for a while now, its been making an intermittent screeching noise from what seems to be inside the dash board. I'm not sure exactly where and why its happening so I'm curious if anyone has a solution to fix the problem. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you.

I have an occasional noise that bellows from behind my instrument cluster sometimes. I tap the cluster enough to move back a lil bit and it goes away. It sounds like something is spinning back there...but I haven't had time to see what's wrong with the cluster.

I had a similar noise, and found it to be my fan blower, when I applied the brakes it would move forward a bit and make the noise you describe. Maybe look at the trhust bearing in the fan motor being worn a bit.

Thanks for the advice all. One more question. If the noise may be due to the fan, do I have to open the dash to get to the fan? If so, whats the easiest way to do that? Thanks again.

The blower motor for the climate control system is on the engine side of the firewall, but you will have to remove the monowiper to access the box that the motor and squirrel cage fans sit in.
The aspirator motor is located behind the glove box, and that will require pulling the dash.

I just replaced the aspirator motor in my 190E because it made noise for a minute or two after start up. Pulled the glove box out, loosed the zip ties and removed the climate block and then pulled out the motor. Do not need to pull the dash.

Thank you this is exactly my problem just after start up. Good to know its accessable after glovebox is removed.
