BAD Air con noise!

New to this site but hoping someone can help me. Just brought a 190e 1985 and have 2 issues - air con works fine but has a shocking screetch that come and goes (sounds like a dentist drill!) also the power steering when turning to the right is really heavy. Any advice would be great...

Check the power steering fluid level.

Also the refrigerant may be low, system will still work if levels are low but the compressor will work on overdrive to keep up the system.

Thanks for that, power steering fluid was fine, weird thing is that the steering is fine when the engine is cold, when warmed up (and just turning right) the steering is harder to turn. Strange.

Check your drivebelt tension, it maybe loose which will explain both the screech and the weak powersteering.

Thanks, we checked the belt and it is super tight. The air con noise is coming from just inside the vents so maybe a bearing (the noise starts and stops)? May have to get a mercanic to check the power steering. Just so weird how it is just when turning right, (reversing and turning left no probs)

Sounds like the bearings in the blower motor. You can take it apart and add a little transmission fluid to the bearings to make the noise go away for a while.

Thanks ...... Will that require taking the whole dash apart?? or can you get to the bearings a simpler way like taking the aircon vents out?

engine compartment

Blower motors on most benz are accessed from the engine compartment, not a hard thing to do. Check Peach Parts and 190rev.net for a lot of instructions on these things. I did my daughter's in two hours, not working too hard either.
