Dashboard Help...
Hello,
I recently purchased a 1986 16V 2.3 and have a question about the dashboard.
The one that is currently in the car is cracked in a few spots and I'm looking to replace it, but I dont know if it can replaced with any 190e dashboard or if the 16V dash is different?
Also does anyone know where to find a dash in at least decent condition if not brand new? I know that may be asking a lot but I've done a good amount of searching around the internet and haven't come up with anything but dash-covers which isn't what I'm looking for obviously...
Thanks for any help

All 190E W201 upper dash section is the same.
the only difference is the 16V came in Black 90% of the 190E models have the dark brown, then there is a very few that have dark blue.
1990 and later dash tend to hold up better over time different material used. Anything before 90 are prone to cracking.
Good luck withy our quest to locate a black dash...

The later models after about '89 are extremely durable. You'd do best going to a junkyard where you can pull your own dash. The learning experience in the removal of the one there makes the job easier when you remove your own and install the replacement. The job is tedious but relatively easy. You're helped by the fact that all the connections are different so you can't hook up the wrong wiring. The biggest problem is losing and not connecting one.
Here's my replacement coming out:
Old one out:
New one almost done:
Finished except for steering wheel:
Easier to remove the replacement dash by removing steering wheel. First effort in removing with the wheel not removed, took me about 3 hours working alone. Removing mine took about 45 minutes. There's definitely a learning curve.
