Catalytic converter has holes

My 85 Mercedes 190e is slowly getting better and better. My next job is to remove the cat after the o2 sensor that runs into the cab. Am I gonna run into any engine issues if I replace the cat with a straight pipe? It looks like its bolted on one end and just slid onto the pipe on the other end. Do I just unbolt it and slide it off? Any tips or advise would be highly helpful

As the O2 sensor is "upstream" of the cat, there are no engine management issues. You may gain a few hp, however don't even try to pass any emissions tests.

Same here on my 2.3-16. This week the cat is being replaced with a straight pipe due to failure. Couldn't rev past 3500 rpm and rattle during deceleration was a dead giveaway to a clogged system.
