Transmission problem

So I'm in Australia and I have a 93 w201 180e (same as 190 just 1.8l) which is built for the landdown under only. I recently had some issues with the auto tranny where reverse was very weak, not such a big deal just don't park on inclines... but over the last few days as I'm driving the gears seem to be slipping on the unchange. It revs up for a few seconds and I have to back off slightly for it to engage and today I pulled up and a red light, light went green foot went down and nothing happened. I have had the car on stands cant find any leaks or loose vacuum hoses. Don't know what to do, have tried 2nd, 3rd and Drive. No go however reverse is functioning at full power again any suggestions? It's the only car I have and being without it is a massive hassle.

Thanks in advanve
